I am currently in Orizaba, Mexico (and very tired from a loooong journey here...both my flight and our bus were delayed getting here). For my fellow Americans who celebrate the holiday, I wish you nothing but happiness for all that the next two days (generally) bring: good food, family gatherings, parades and football on the TV and...hopefully...a bit of tabletop gaming.
My best to everyone. I'll write as I can.
Forgot I could be playing hooky and watching football all day! Happy Thanksgiving! No turkey in Mexico, I suppose. My son rated the food we had in Playa del Carmen as 110 on a scale of 1 to 10. I think he liked it.
ReplyDeleteTurkey or "huajalote" (as it is called in Nahuatl) is a traditional staple of pre-Columbian Mexican food. However, my wife's family (specifically, my wife and my father-in-law) are NOT fans so, no, no turkey down here. We had chipotle ribs, chicken, bacalao, tuna stuffed chilis, a bunch of sides, a couple of pies, and a LOT of wine, beer, and cognac.
DeleteThere's something different about being hungover in Mexico. Not that I recommend it or anything. But we were dancing till 3am and greatly enjoying our reunited family members and...well, it was a pretty good time. And the weather's still warm this morning (I'm in short sleeves as I drink my coffee), and that's pretty nice, too.
; )
Oh...and I missed ALL the football games (as I was either cooking or eating all day), by the way. But I got the scores. And my team doesn't play till Sunday anyway.
