D&D is NOT "Cinematic"

If it was, player character could get a bonus level or two prior to going into the dungeon by participating in a training montage set to music.

  1. I actually have "Montage" rules in Neoclassical Geek Revival.

Whenever learning a new skill, if the intelligence check fails, the player can get a re-roll. They must begin singing an appropriate montage song (other players are encouraged to help) for at least 30 seconds while they re-roll.

Current player favourites are Eye of the Tiger, Final countdown, and the montage song.

  2. We had this same conversation about three npc farmers we saved from slavers. " Hell they are zero level now but let's spend a day in a montage and they will be at least second "

Anyway I have a spell based on this idea on my blog:

  4. It occurs to me, though, that rules for a training montage to replace the expansive (and expensive) training rules in first edition AD&D could rock...

  5. I think it's OK as long as you use some kind of classical music to set it too, and not some 80's pop crap, or Frank Stallone.

My first thoughts on that idea were posted here, and a more detailed version will be my 24th out of the 25 September of Short Adventures. :-)

Forget Eye of the Tiger; you've got to play Weird Al's Rye or the Kaiser!
