Total Bust

No one showed up to my game.

I sat around till after 2:30 (having arrived at exactly 1pm). My books were prominently displayed. I was prominently displayed (I think). One dude talked to me about how much he "loved the OSR," but then had to go meet his Vampire LARP buddies at the bar down the street (no, I'm not making that up).

Since no one had emailed me that they might be appearing I decided to get home to the rest of my life (you know, wife, dogs, friends, etc...we're going to a movie at 6 anyway). I don't need to run a game, after all. I just wanted to.

I feel depressed.

Oh, yeah...and WotC released their new Dark Sun Campaign Setting. Big whoop.

  1. Sorry to hear it. Are you gonna try again? I hope so.

  2. That sucks, dude. Sorry to hear it. The life of the old schooler we choose to lead is fun but limited at times!

    Don't give up!

  3. Their loss. Hang in there, it'll happen.

  4. I would have shown up if I lived in your neck of the woods, if that's any consolation.

  5. That sux man. I've had this idea in the back of my head though, to do what you did but on the night they do that D&D Encounters thing. The CT D&D meetup meets at a place like 20 minutes away. It's not really a game store, but its the only place gamers meet in the whole state, as far as I can tell. I figure I may as well crash the party and try and get some gamers and a game going. If that doesn't work, then I might try for some local colleges for the same thing.

  6. Sorry to here about it JB. At times it feels as if we're doubly handicapped in gaming: we like a game style that isn't in vogue right now, and we're older looking for relatively older people to play the game with. Hope you try it again though.

PS. You know I would have shown up if I lived out in Seattle.

  7. If I lived where you lived, I'd have killed to attend. I'd have Sharpied it into my mental calculator.

  9. Condolences. If you lived in AZ, I'd have been there.

  10. Thanks all...I'm over it (and no I'm not "giving up" on running B/X, nor running a game down at the game shop). Consoled myself by finally purchasing Death-Frost-Doom, and hope to run it next weekend at Dragonflight XXXI. Then I went to Inception and had my mind blown.
    ; )

    More on this later.

  12. Don't give up the spirit and the hope, my friend! There are gamers everywhere! Including online, which I've been considering more and more. I myself have had an upsetting weekend in roleplaying, which I will elaborate on today on my blog. But anyway, FIGHT ON!

  13. JB, sorry to hear that. I'm expecting the same on the 21st when I try to run at the local Meetup. It's mostly "kids" in their 20s and they seem to be okay with 4e. Like a lot of people above me I'd sure love to play were I anywhere near but considering I'm on the East Coast not going to happen. Have you considered running an online game?

  14. Consolations, man. I just had a parent cancel for their kid for my library 4e campaign for religious reasons. :( I really hope your game gets together.

  15. Yeah, my attempt at a "cold" game like this also resulted in nothing. That said, I did manage to snag a third guy and we finally played LL last week-end and had a blast. So...you know...

  16. Ha! I may need to think outside the box myself...I DO have a library within a couple blocks of my house...
