How Hard Is This Publishing Thing Anyway?

Hmmm...actually, I got nothing to say on the subject right now. I really haven't decided what to disclose and what not.

And I'm not even trying to be cryptic or anything. I honestly don't know what I wanted to write when I posted that title. Just that it would be kind of fun to just put out fun games for folks to play. That would be a fun hobby for me.

I wonder what Gygax and Arneson would say about all the stuff that's happened the last one-two years with RPGs, especially Old School RPGs. Ridiculous to speculate, of course...I'm just wondering, that's all.

I've got three B/X modules in the works, by which I mean, the initial ideas have been set down. Only one...call her "GQ1" (my working title)...is going into the Companion box. But I don't see any reason not to do the others in quick succession. Gotta' have something out there for folks who want some B/X Companion play time.

Gotta' run...I'll write something more substantive (I hope!) later. Have a good day, folks!

  1. To answer the question in the title, it depends on what you mean by "publish". If the goal is professionally bound book in your hand and available for others to order online, lulu.com makes getting published pretty easy. Shoot me an email if you want help with that. jrients gmail etc.

If you want your book in distribution such that it gets into hobby stores, that's a lot trickier. I'd suggest talking to the gang at Brave Halfling Publishing. Or if you want advice on getting Goodman Games to publish your stuff for you, talk to Jim Raggi, Rob Conley and/or Micke Curtis. They're all three super guys.

  3. I've been trying to do something similar. I've always had a dream of being published in some way. I wrote a game system (well, its still in testing) and a board game and I'm working on a module but I have no idea what to do with any of it. I'm tracking my progress on my module on my other site http://adventureventure.blogspot.com/ just to see how it comes out.
