In Praise of Gygaxian Combat (Part 1)

These days, I quite simply have a profound respect for the original D&D combat system as presented in OD&D, B/X, AD&D, and BECMI...basically, all the pre-D20 versions (yes, 2nd edition, I guess I need to include you, too...*sigh*).


For those of you, like me, that happen to own a copy of the AD&D Dungeon Masters Guide, pull it out and read the first column on page 61. For the rest of you, I unfortunately have neither the time nor the inclination to quote it at length here, you're just going to have to trust me when I say...all is revealed. The system IS elegant. It IS purposeful. It IS heroic.


Hmmm...perhaps I should expound on this a bit in a 2nd post.
