C is for Cudgel of Crazed Casting.
This magical club was created to be the bane of spell-casters of all types. Any such individual struck by the weapon (including clerics, magic-users, elves, and monstrous spell-casters) has their magical powers hopelessly scrambled. While their ability to memorize and retain spells remains unaltered, any attempt to cast a spell requires the DM to randomly determine which spell is cast from those actually remaining in the character's memory (make a list of the character's memorized spells and then roll what ever dice work best to determine both level and spell cast).
Characters who only have access to one spell (2nd level clerics or 1st level magic-users for example) may not even realize the enchantment they are under until they've earned enough experience to advance in level...and perhaps not even then if they choose to memorize the same spell for their new spell slot. It is also possible that a lucky roll by the DM will result in the desired spell being cast. Eventually, though the spell-caster will be faced with her malfunctioning powers and realize she is under the effects of an enchantment.
A remove curse spell will removed the effect of the cudgel of crazed casting.
